Given the inherent responsibility and potential liability associated with holding persons in our detention facility, I am requesting the purchase of updated video monitoring equipment that would provide better coverage of the detention area. The police department's detention facility currently has only three cameras to monitor the detention facility. These cameras are installed in the hallway on the exterior of the holding cells and provide limited visibility of cells' interior. Notably, these camera do not have audio capability.
We have recently met with representatives from Electronic Technology, Inc.(ETI) to identify the needed items that would satisfy our video monitoring needs. ETI currently installs and maintains our video monitoring equipment and it is my recommendation that we choose our existing company for this additional equipment so that it is compatible with the current system.
If approved, the scope of the work would include installing cameras in detention cells one through six, and in the juvenile detention cell. The upload port of each switch would use the existing network cable at each location to connect to the existing switch in the Communications Center.
The detailed quote from ETI is attached. The total cost for the equipment and installation would be $18,361.76.
If approved by the City Council, I am requesting this purchase utilize monies from the city's ARPA funds.
